Significant changes to union rights and employer obligations are on the horizon under the Employment Rights Bill currently being debated in Parliament. Employers would be required to provide a written statement to all workers about their right to join a union. Trade union officials might gain broader rights of access to workplaces for recruitment, organising, and collective bargaining – subject to a statutory process. The Bill also introduces a more permissive framework for lawful industrial action.
