Index of Job Market Trends for Blue- and Grey-Collar Jobs in India
Index of Job Market Trends for Blue- and Grey-Collar Jobs in India will map demand, supply, wage levels, and skill requirements for India’s blue- and grey-collar workforce.
Project Description
The India Workforce Index: Blue & Grey Collar is a dynamic, quarterly updated labour market dashboard designed to improve transparency and evidence-based decision-making in India’s rapidly evolving labour market.
Focusing on blue- and grey-collar workers, the project measures labour supply, labour demand, and wage levels by integrating data from multiple reliable sources, including government surveys, private job boards, wage databases, and complementary datasets.
By bringing these sources together in a single, regularly updated index, the project addresses persistent information gaps faced by workers, job seekers, employers, policymakers, and researchers.
The dashboard highlights trends in job vacancies, skill shortages and mismatches, regional and sectoral wage variation, and shifts in labour demand, enabling users to better understand current market dynamics and emerging risks.
In doing so, the project supports more informed career choices, recruitment strategies, skills planning, and labour market policies, ultimately contributing to improved employment outcomes and workforce resilience.
WageIndicator Foundation leads the project and is responsible for coordinating data collection, analysis, dashboard development, and stakeholder engagement. Its India-based team, Paycheck.in, contributes in-depth expertise on labour law, minimum wages, and national dissemination strategies, while drawing on WageIndicator’s global experience in labour market transparency initiatives across more than 200 countries.
