As WageIndicator, we are dedicated to ensuring that your privacy is well protected. With this privacy statement, we want to inform you about why and how we collect and process your information. This statement applies to all services, websites, newsletters and apps by WageIndicator Foundation, including the website you are currently visiting.
Who are we?
We are WageIndicator Foundation, a non-profit foundation incorporated under Dutch law and with our headquarters located in the Netherlands. We are the data controller to which this statement refers. Please find our contact details at the bottom of this privacy statement.
Why do we process your data?
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
- Providing high-quality information on wages, tariffs, labor law, salary, labor law, careers to both professional clients and the general public.
- Informing you with our websites and the tools and services available on it.
- Collecting information about wages, tariffs, cost of living, the labor market and working conditions, through surveys on our website and our apps.
- Sending you our newsletter.
- Showing you (personalized) ads.
- Allowing you to share content on social media through the use of social media buttons.
- Improving our website and services, as well as personalizing the content on our website.
On what legal grounds do we process your data?
We use the following grounds for processing your data: Consent, for instance if you want to receive our newsletter, if you accept certain cookies, or if you decide to share data through our websites, apps, tools or surveys. Please note that when using these, you are always free in deciding which information you share (or don’t share) with us.
Our legitimate interests are:
- Creating and maintaining our databases with information about (Living) Wages and Living Tariffs, working conditions, Collective Bargaining Agreements and Labor Law. We do this by collecting (aggregated) data our users provide us with, for instance through our online surveys or apps. Please refer to section 10 to read more about the steps we take to safeguard your privacy in this regard;
- Improving our services and websites and keeping our services and websites accessible, operational, and safe. We do this by collecting (aggregated) data about our visitors and users;
- Showing advertisements on our (publicly available) websites to our audience. This helps us in keeping the publicly available WageIndicator websites and tools free of charge, for tens of millions of users per year in both the global south and global north;
- Advertising our website and services to our (potential) customers.
Necessity for the execution of an agreement, such as a subscription to our data services, an agreement to use the tools or information on our website. For instance, if you use (the tools on) our website or if you ask one of our helpdesks a question.
Necessity for compliance with our legal obligations. For instance, if you purchase any services through our website, we may need to store information in light of our tax reports.
What type of data do we process?
When you visit our websites, we process your IP-address, as well as some essential, technical data about the device you use, so we can properly display our webpages.
If you (or your employer) have a subscription or contract with us for our professional data services, we may also process your contact details (such as an e-mail or phone number) and some data about your employment relationship (job title, who your employer is).
Additionally, we process data you actively share with us through our website and services. This includes your data such as your e-mail address (if you share your contact data), data related to questions you may ask our helpdesk, and any data you fill in in our tools. The latter includes information about your income, job, industry and working conditions, as well as demographic information such as age, sex and region you live in.
Data you actively share with us may contain data in certain special categories (such as data relating to health or trade union membership). Please note that you are always free to share (or not share) this information with us. If you decide to share special personal data, we assume that you give us explicit consent to process your data for the purposes you provided them for.
Usage of cookies
We use cookies (small files stored on your device) and similar techniques to manage access to, and use of our websites, recognize the user and help us understand how our websites are used.
Depending on your cookie choices, we may process further data, for instance to show relevant advertisements. Advertising helps us keep our sites and services free of charge.

Sharing your data with third parties
To provide our services and the other purposes mentioned under paragraph [2], we use the help of third party service providers. Examples of these are the parties hosting our website or our digital helpdesk platform, as well as parties that support tools on our website. We may share your data with these third parties to the extent this is necessary for these purposes.
If we share your data with third party services providers, we make sure that there are adequate safeguards to protect your personal data, such as appropriate data security certification. We also make sure that these third parties are bound by contractual arrangements that are compliant with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
With your consent, we may share your data with other parties, such as Meta, Google, X and other social media companies. And finally, we may share your personal data if required by law or court order.
While we share our databases with third parties, please note that the data in our databases cannot be traced back to individual persons. We do not sell any identifiable personal data to third parties.

Our websites include links to the websites of other organizations and companies. Please note that we are not responsible for these websites and our privacy policy does not apply to these websites. Instead, these websites have their own privacy policies.
Sharing your data outside of Europe
If you are based in Europe (or, more specifically, the countries that are part of the European Economic Space), there are limitations on transferring your data to countries outside of Europe.
Please note that if we intend to transfer your data to such countries, we will take all necessary precautions (such as ensuring contractual arrangements) to safeguard an adequate level of protection. How long do we store your data?
We only store your data as long as necessary for the purposes mentioned above. The exact period is determined by taking into account for which purpose the data was collected, how long we need to process your data and what the legal or regulatory directives or guidelines for processing your data are.
After this period, we will delete your data or anonymize it for research and record purposes.
What steps do we take to ensure your privacy?
We have taken organizational and technical measures to make sure that your data is well-protected. For instance, all people we work with have a legally binding obligation to treat all data they receive confidentially. We use up-to-date techniques to prevent unallowed access to your personal data. For instance, any personal data we store is encrypted, access to personal data is on a need-to-know basis and we have regular cyber security training and data protection protocols for our staff.
Regarding data about wages, prices and working conditions collected through our surveys, we take additional steps to safeguard your privacy. First of all, we make sure that your data is anonymized as soon as possible. For instance, we don’t ask for or store any data that can be used to identify you with. We also regularly clean-up our databases, so that they do not contain data that can be traced back to individual persons.
What are your rights as data subject?
Please note that under the GDPR, as data subject you have several rights. These include:
- Access to your personal data;
- Rectification or erasure of your personal data;
- The right to request restriction of or object against further processing ;
- The right to data portability.
If you want to execute any of these rights, please send us a request through the contact details below. We will respond to your request as soon as possible, but ultimately within four weeks.
If you have consented to us processing your personal data, please note that you always have the right to withdraw your consent, for instance by unsubscribing from a newsletter.
