GMB Union, representing around 150,000 local government and school staff, announced it will submit a pay claim at the end of November, demanding a “significant” pay increase for 2026. The union says that recent public-sector pay offers have been below inflation or made without meaningful union negotiation. The claim reflects rising frustration among local authority workers who argue their pay has lagged behind cost of living and that services are under-resourced.
