A week-long strike by municipal workers in the city of İzmir came to an end on 4 June after unions and the municipality reached an agreement on wages. The strike, which had paralyzed many essential public services in the city, concluded after the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Türkiye (DİSK) accepted the Mayor’s “final offer.” The İzmir Municipality proposed a 30% increase on 1 July, followed by a 19% rise on 1 January 2026. The workers, organized under DİSK, staged the strike to demand wage increases and the elimination of salary disparities among municipal employees represented by different unions. Approximately 23,000 workers participated in the industrial action, which reached its seventh day on 4 June.
