Switzerland - Canton terminates uniform collective agreement - June 30, 2025

The cantonal government of Solothurn is terminating the existing collective agreement for all public sector employees. It wants to create a new, modern personnel law that can also take sector-specific characteristics into account. The collective agreement currently covers all employees in the canton – it applies to administration, schools, hospitals, and cantonal businesses. This model, which is unique to the canton of Solothurn, is increasingly reaching its limits, said the Finance Minister. The Solothurn Government Council sees a great opportunity to create "sustainable and future-oriented framework conditions for all employees: Cantonal employees need a law that can differentiate and adapt, that fits changing requirements," according to the minister.
