On 17 October the Parliament adopted an amendment to the Labour Market Regulation Act to introduce a transition period for the abolition of the preferential unemployment benefit rule for cross-border workers. At the request of the Trade Union of Slovenian Migrant Workers, a clause allows the older rule (higher maximum benefit) to stay in force until the general unemployment benefit exceeds €1,785. The agreement followed union threats of a referendum and signals a compromise reached through social-dialogue channels rather than unilateral change.
