The Union of the Ministry of Defence together with the 112 operators’ strike committee announced plans to intensify strike action unless the government engages substantively with their longstanding demands. The operators have been on strike for 535 days, maintaining emergency response capacity despite the pressure, while their demands remain unaddressed. The union highlights the contradiction between promotional messages praising the success of the 112 system and the Government’s neglect of the workers who sustain it. At a time when geopolitical pressure and international commitments underscore the importance of civil protection, strengthening the centres that field emergency calls should be a priority.
