Slovakia - Strike alert in energy sector - February 28, 2025

The Energy and Chemical Trade Union (ZO ECHOZ) declared a strike alert in energy companies in the east of the country. As stated by the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic (KOZ SR), if the employers do not reconsider its position, the situation may escalate to a strike. After eight rounds of negotiations on the company collective agreement for the years 2025-2027, the employers still refuse to agree to fair conditions for its employees, according to the union. Key issues remain controversial – a decent increase in basic wages, fair risk bonuses, better conditions in personal accounts, and other benefits that have a fundamental impact on the lives of workers. The union is demanding a 7.2% wage increase.
