Slovakia - Protest against plant closure - May 31, 2025

On 27 May 2025, a public protest of employees and trade unionists took place in front of the ECCO Slovakia a.s. plant in Martin. The reason is the planned closure of the factory and the mass layoffs of more than 640 employees. The Integrated Trade Union is demanding additional severance pay of € 3,000 for each employee above and beyond the collective agreement. According to the union, the company provides employees only the legal minimum – specifically, severance pay in the amount of eight salaries. However, given the scale of the layoffs, the union considers this amount insufficient.
