Serbia - Pay increase for teachers - January 31, 2025

Following a meeting with representatives of the teachers’ unions, the Government has proposed that salaries for teachers and professional staff be increased twice this year—in March and October, by 5% each time. The Prime Minister announced that education workers will see an 11% increase as part of their January salaries. Additionally, with the two increases in March and October, followed by a 7% increase in January 2026, teachers’ salaries will be 31% higher over a 13-month period. A representative of the Education Union of Čačak said that the March and October salary increases do not include administrative staff and other school employees, which he considers unacceptable. He noted that the main issue is that the state has failed to meet its commitments from October 2023, and that starting salaries for teachers will still not reach the national average, even with the proposed increases.
