Romania - Tripartite council to discuss minimum wage - October 31, 2025

A formal meeting of the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue (CNTDS) took place on 24 October 2025 to examine an increase in the minimum wage. Before the meeting, the Secretary-General of the CNTDS emphasised that “there are solid arguments for increasing it from both a legal, economic and social point of view.” The statement comes amid pressures from unions representing the 838,000 workers on the current statutory minimum wage, who argue that low incomes are losing ground to inflation and declining living standards. Meanwhile employers warn that an increase will cascade into higher wage costs across sectors.
