Portugal - Waste collection workers on strike - January 31, 2025

Workers at Algar, a company that processes solid waste, will be on strike on 20 and 21 January. According to SITE (Union of Manufacturing Industries, Energy and Southern Activities), affiliated with confederation CGTP, the union is dissatisfied with the proposal salary adjustment for 2025, meal voucher adjustment, granting of unhealthy, dangerous, arduous and risk benefits, overtime values and negotiation of salary tables, professional careers and progressions. According to the union, the proposal by Algar for a 2% salary increase left the workers with no choice but to strike.
