All trains in the country have come to a complete halt on 28 April, due to a strike called by the SFRCI union. After exhaustive negotiations with the management of the railway company Comboios de Portugal, the union had reached a satisfactory agreement regarding salary increases for the current year, but this agreement has been awaiting approval from the Government since February 2025. The union said that the strike aims to demand better salary conditions for all company employees.
