Portugal - Protest by public administration workers - August 31, 2025

On 17 July, public administration workers took part in a national protest organised by unions affiliated with CGTP-IN. The mobilisation followed a demonstration on 27 June by local government and municipal company workers, reflecting growing frustration over pay, careers and working conditions. Unions have criticised the Government’s austerity approach, which has left wages stagnant and allowed precarious contracts to spread across public services. The protest highlighted demands for investment in the workforce, protection of public services from privatisation, and stronger collective bargaining rights.
