On 18 June, the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LPSK) appealed to the Ministry of Health and expressed its strong opposition to the proposed draft amendment to the Law on Sickness and Maternity Social Insurance. Although this draft seeks to grant employers the right to legalize up to the first two days of illness without a doctor's certificate, LPSK sees numerous risks and states that such a fragmented approach not only fails to solve fundamental problems, but also poses new challenges for employees, employers and the health system. LPSK emphasizes that the proposed draft law attempts to solve the problems of obtaining a sick leave certificate for a specific employee, but also the accessibility of the entire health system and services. According to LPSK, such partial amendments are insufficient to solve long-standing systemic problems.
