The Ministry of Welfare has prepared a draft law on Amendments to the Labour Law, which is currently being forwarded to ministries and social partners for coordination and opinions. The Latvian Free Trade Union Confederation (LBAS) believes that the provisions contained therein are a reasonable compromise that will make employment relations more flexible, while also ensuring adequate protection for employees and increasing the number of collective agreements. At the same time, LBAS views with concern the proposal that provides for a unilateral right to withdraw from the application of a collective agreement after the term of the collective agreement and the abuse of downtime.
