Latvia - Foreign investors call for less union protection - October 31, 2025

The influential Foreign Investors Council in Latvia (FICIL) business lobby called for wide-ranging reforms of existing labour laws which it described as "outdated". It opposes the withdrawal of the proposal to reform Article 110 of the Labour Law, which would have abolished what it calls "excessive protection" for trade union members and which leaves it more complicated for employers to fire workers who belong to a trade union.
