Last year, the Saeima (Parliament) decided to cap wage budget growth for state and municipal establishments and companies at 2.6%. This decision hampers the recruitment of new employees, says electricity distribution network Augstsprieguma tīkls (AST), and is asking for an exemption. AST is not the only such company in the sector. The ministries responsible are planning to ask the Government to allow higher payments to employees of energy companies. This is because, with the planned disconnection from the BRELL electricity grid in February and full integration into the European grid, more work is needed.
