Italy - Strike in care sector - June 30, 2025

Trade unions Fp Cgil, Cisl Fp, Fisascat Cisl, Uil Fpl and Uiltucs – declared a national strike covering over 10,000 workers employed in facilities under ANASTE – the employers’ organisation representing private and non-profit providers that manage residential and care facilities for elderly and dependent people. The move followed a negotiation meeting on 10 June, where ANASTE presented a contract renewal offer including a € 55 increase for level 4 full-time workers, partial improvements to sickness benefits and a small contribution for supplementary healthcare. The unions rejected the proposal as inadequate compared to other agreements in the sector. They argue it fails to recognise the professionalism and workload of staff and warn of further departures, risking the quality of care.
