Italy - Nationwide strike - October 31, 2025

A major nationwide general strike halted transport, schools and many workplaces as two of the country’s largest unions, CGIL and USB, called a 24-hour walk-out in response to Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which included an estimated 40 Italian nationals and members of parliament among its passengers. The strike underscored broader dissatisfaction with wage stagnation, weak collective bargaining and slow renewal of national agreements.
