Talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) produced limited progress in resolving the long-running dispute about pension rights for school secretaries and caretakers. Fórsa, the union representing the staff, welcomed movement from the Department of Education but stressed that 'critical gaps' remain, particularly regarding retrospective service recognition and pay alignment with comparable grades. Staff staged several stoppages earlier this year and continue to threaten further industrial action if negotiations stall. The dispute underscores wider concerns in the country’s education system, where ancillary staff often feel overlooked compared to teaching staff.
