Ireland - Agreement on extended health services - August 31, 2025

Health workers’ unions have reached an agreement with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health on the rollout of extended health services. The deal provides a framework for extended opening hours while safeguarding staffing levels, fair compensation, and adherence to existing workplace protections. The agreement, described by SIPTU union as “balanced and sustainable,” addresses concerns about working conditions by including governance and oversight measures, as well as detailed implementation plans at local level. It ensures that additional hours will be introduced without undermining staff welfare or core service quality.
