Iceland - Collective agreement at alumina producer - September 30, 2025

A collective agreement was reached between alumina producer Alcoa Iceland and the trade unions representing its workforce, averting a planned strike. The settlement followed intensive negotiations and led to the cancellation of a strike vote. The labour dispute involving Alcoa employees was referred to the state mediator in April after negotiations had been ongoing since December. The union Afl (Union of General and Specialised Workers) and Rafiðnaðarsamband Íslands (Icelandic Electrical Industry Association) have now signed a collective agreement with Alcoa. The strike vote has been cancelled.
