Unions GSEE and ADEDY announced a nationwide 24‑hour general strike for 1 October to protest against the Government’s ‘Fair Work for All’ law. The new labour law foresees 10-hour workdays for four days a week throughout the year, individual contracts with reduced working hours, 13-hour daily employment in companies that do not provide a short break, and a reduction in the cost of overtime. Teachers, transport and seamen pledged to join. A court blocked the participation of the Air Traffic Controllers’ Union (EEKE) in the strike, ruling it unlawful.
