Greece - Lack of collective agreements hinders wage growth - January 31, 2025

The lack of collective agreements poses an additional challenge in shaping the new average salary. The minimum wage for workers is set for an increase of approximately € 40 to € 50 starting from 1 April 2025. The process of determining the exact adjustments is set to commence by the end of January. The minimum wage is expected to reach € 870 or € 880 in 2025. This aligns with the Government’s goals to raise the minimum wage to € 950 by 2027 and the average wage to € 1,500. This requires annual increases in the average salary of approximately 5.3%. However, the lack of collective agreements poses an additional challenge in shaping the new average salary. Large groups of workers have not signed contracts for years, resulting in their wages being compressed near the minimum wage levels.
