Germany - Warning strikes in public sector - February 28, 2025

After the second round of negotiations for the more than 2.5 million employees in the federal and local public service was postponed without result, unions and employees are increasing the pressure on employers. On 26 February 2025, around 4,000 trainees and dual students in the public service nationwide have been called to strike. The young professionals from administration, health care, social and educational services and savings banks are demanding, among other things, better pay, more days off and a secure job after training. At the same time, ver.di called on employees at Munich Airport to strike on 27 and 28 February. In addition, public sector employees continued their protests on 25 February with warning strikes in Lower Saxony and Bremen, and on 26 February, the employees of Frankfurt city administration as well as daycare centres and social institutions also went on strike.
