Germany - More pay for painters and decorators - May 31, 2025

After intensive and lengthy negotiations, a new collective agreement for the painting and decorating trade was concluded. The agreement brings significant wage increases for all employees – both in the East and West – as well as improvements for apprentices and a rising industry minimum wage. Wages in the painting and decorating trade will increase in several stages. Starting 1 April 2025, employees in the East will receive an initial increase in the basic wage of € 0.66 to € 19.10 per hour. Further increases will follow on 1 January 2026 (to € 19.40), 1 July 2026 (to € 19.70), and finally on 1 January 2027, to € 20.00. Wages are also rising in the West: Starting 1 April 2025, there will be a 2.9% increase to € 19.42. A further 3% increase to €20.00 will follow on 1 June 2026. This results in a total wage increase of 5.9%. Starting 1 January 2027, uniform wages will apply for the first time in East and West Germany. In addition to the collectively agreed wage increases, the industry minimum wage will also be increased to €15.55 on 1 July 2025 and to € 16.13 on 1 July 2026.
