Germany - Higher pay in iron and steel industry - October 31, 2025

Following the agreement in the Northwest German steel industry, IG Metall has now also reached a collective agreement in the East German steel industry: 1.75% more pay starting in January 2026. Trainees will receive an additional €75 per month. The agreement will run until 31 December 2026. In addition, the collective agreements on job security will be extended. These agreements allow for working time accounts and a reduction in working hours to as little as 28 hours per week, with partial wage compensation, to safeguard jobs. Furthermore, the hiring of trainees upon completion of their apprenticeships is guaranteed.
