The trade unions ver.di and the Federal Association of Actors (BFFS) have reached a collective agreement with the production alliance for the first time on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in film and television production. The agreement regulates, among other things, the protection of acting performances, transparency obligations and financial compensation for affected filmmakers. The regulations particularly concern the use of so-called replicas - i.e. digital replicas of actors - and are intended to ensure that they are only used with consent and appropriate remuneration. The collective agreement comes into force on 1 March 2025, and runs until 30 June 2026. A six-monthly evaluation is intended to ensure that the regulations keep pace with the rapid development of AI technology.
