Germany - Collective agreement for magazine editors - June 30, 2025

After tough negotiations, the two unions ver.di and the DJV (German Journalists Association), and the Magazine Publishers' Association (MVFP) agreed on a new collective agreement for magazine editors on 12 June 2025. The compromise provides for salary increases in three stages: starting in July 2025, income will initially increase by a fixed amount of € 160, followed by increases of 2.8% (2026) and 1.8% (2027). Depending on years of service, salaries will thus increase by a total of 7.9 to 9.1%. For trainees, there will be a fixed increase of € 125 – equivalent to over 5% more pay. At the same time, it was agreed to continue negotiations on topics such as digital journalism and artificial intelligence in the future. The collective agreement has a term of 36 months until the end of September 2027.
