Germany - Bargaining conflict in public sector - January 31, 2025

The biggest collective bargaining dispute of the year begins on January 2024. Despite the economic crisis, union ver.di is demanding 8% higher pay or at least € 350 for three million employees, civil servants and pensioners in the public service of the municipalities and the federal government. The union also wants three additional days off per year. The first warning strikes are scheduled for February. According to the Association of Municipal Employers (Vereinigung der kommunalen Arbeitgeberverbände, VKA) the union demands will cost € 15 billion.
