Social media platform TikTok employees went on a 4-day strike starting 23 September. The action is in response to the company's continued refusal to enter into negotiations of a collective agreement with ver.di union since July of this year. According to company plans, the Trust and Safety department – responsible for content moderation – is to be dissolved. Activities are to be outsourced to external service providers and partially replaced by artificial intelligence. Union ver.di is demanding a collective agreement that, among other things, provides for severance payments equivalent to three years' salary for all employees affected by layoffs and an extension of the notice period to 12 months.
