France - Strike in health and social care - October 31, 2025

The CGT Santé et Action Sociale has called a national strike from 17 to 23 October across hospitals, elderly-care facilities, social-care services and other publicly funded health and care institutions. The union denounces the continued closure of hospital beds, wards and entire services, which it says is worsening access to care and leaving emergency departments operating in degraded conditions. It demands the reopening of these facilities and a stronger network of local public hospitals, psychiatric and paediatric mental-health units, and public health centres focused on prevention and primary care. The CGT also calls for a general wage increase starting from a €2000 minimum wage, recognition of qualifications, and the payment of the €183 Ségur bonus to all health and care workers.
