Hundreds of thousands of workers joined a nationwide strike and demonstrations organized by eight major unions against proposed cuts, pension reforms, and the 2026 budget. The action disrupted schools, regional transport, and public services nationwide. Protesters and unions called for the previous Government's fiscal plans to be scrapped, for more spending on public services, higher taxes on the wealthy and for the reversal of an unpopular change making people work longer to get a pension.
