France - Environmental police officers strike - January 31, 2025

Officers from the environmental police force are planning demonstrations in response to a perceived lack of support from public authorities and comments from the prime minister over their job role. Members of the 3,000-strong Office français de la biodiversité (OFB) will walk out on 31 January, as well as host demonstrations in several towns and cities across the country. Further action by the agents is possible. A notable feature of the demonstrations will be a symbolic return of new holsters the officers are required to use for their weapons when undertaking certain administrative controls on farms. Since mid-January many officers have withdrawn from duties relating to controls on farms as they no longer feel safe to do so in light of widespread farmer protests, representatives say.
