EU Sources - MEPs call for just transition directive and stronger collective bargaining - February 28, 2025

The Employment and Social Affairs Committee adopted a resolution calling for the Commission to present a just transition directive to strengthen democracy in the workplace. Reskilling and upskilling should be prioritised as much as possible before job cuts are considered, and gender equality should be made an integral part of transition strategies, the Committee says. It emphasises the importance of involving social partners, social dialogue and collective bargaining to ensure that the EU’s industrial policy delivers quality jobs. Member states are urged to reinforce and promote collective bargaining, with the aim of achieving a collective bargaining coverage of at least 80% across member states..
