Estonia - Plea for higher public sector wages - September 30, 2025

On 11 September 2025, a coalition of major unions including EAKL, the Teachers’ Union, the Nurses’ Union and others issued an open letter to the Prime Minister. They urged the Government to use any surplus in next year’s budget to raise wages for critical public sectors (healthcare, education, security), warning that without stronger pay, staffing shortages and service decline may deepen. The letter underscores a strategic push by unions to leverage fiscal space for social dialogue gains.
