Unions have won a major victory after the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Parliament, rejected a proposed amendment to the Labour Code that would have allowed employers to fire workers without providing a reason. From the beginning, the Czech Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions (ČMKOS) warned that the approval of this amendment would mean a return to the times of wild capitalism, when employees had no security and could be fired just because they dared to speak out against injustice, fell ill or participated in union activities. ČMKOS led an extensive campaign against this proposal, which was not discussed at all with the social partners.
