Bulgaria - Trade unions will monitor the prices of basic goods - June 30, 2025

In the months preceding the country’s accession to the Eurozone, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) has started to conduct monthly price surveys of 20 basic goods from the 'small consumer basket'. This monitoring is in line with the Memorandum of Cooperation signed a week earlier between the union and the Government regarding the introduction of the euro and the prevention of unjustified price hikes for goods and services. CITUB is demanding that an additional € 31 million be allocated in the budget to fund a 5% wage increase from 1 July in several underfunded sectors, including public media outlets.
