Bulgaria - Protest by transport workers - April 30, 2025

The Federation of Transport Trade Unions at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) sent a protest declaration to the Government and to the mayors and municipal councillors of Sofia, Varna and Ruse with a demand for a wage increase. A horizontal income policy is needed to ensure a minimum 15% increase in staff costs, according to the Federation. The declaration demands additional funds from the 2025 Budget, which would ensure an increase in the subsidy for public transport. According to the Federation, the chronic underfunding of the transport sector does not bring peace of mind and confidence for the present and future of those working in it.
