The three main trade union confederations organised a national day of mobilisation to protest against the federal government’s planned austerity measures. The strike was called by the trade unions ABVV-FGTB, ACV-CSC and CGSLB-ACLVB. Among the measures the unions are denouncing are policies affecting pensions, unemployment benefits, and wages. The unions denounced the Government’s social policies as unfair and harmful to working people. They also criticised the lack of social dialogue and called for investment in quality jobs, decent pensions, and strong public services. Tens of thousands of workers joined demonstrations across the country, with a major rally held in Brussels.
