Belgium - General strike against austerity policy - March 31, 2025

The socialist trade union FGTB/ABVV and the christian union CSC/ACV called for a general strike on 31 March. It caused disruptions across the entire country as flights were cancelled, public transport was disrupted, and employees took to the streets to denounce the new Federal Government's budget cuts, mostly concerning pensions. The unions called on employees in all sectors to strike and organise actions. Several teachers' unions took part in the strike, while picket lines blocked access to business parks across the country. Police and prisons also issued strike notices, as has postal company Bpost.
