Austria - Bus drivers on strike - February 28, 2025

After four rounds of negotiations on a new collective agreement for 12,000 employees in the bus industry that failed to produce any results, the union vida announced a warning strike on 20 February. According to the union negotiator, it is sending a clear warning signal to employers to finally come back to the negotiating table with a sensible and acceptable offer. Although an agreement was reached on compensation for rolling inflation of 3.5%, only "marginal, but no real relief measures" were offered in terms of working conditions, according to the union. The employers' offer was a "sham". Relief in terms of split shifts and breaks was tied to a loss of income, and there was no movement at all on an extension of the night shift allowance. Minimal concessions were only made in terms of allowances, according to vida.
