The 2024-25 local government pay deal has been accepted after Unison joined the GMB union in agreeing to the offer. The National Employers’ deal includes an annual increase of £ 1,290 (€ 1,554) for the lowest-paid workers, representing a 5.77% raise, effective from 1 April 2024. Initially, the unions GMB, Unison, and Unite submitted a claim for either £ 3,000 (€ 3,614) or a 10% raise, whichever was higher. However, Unison’s recent ballot had insufficient turnout to reject the offer, leading the union to accept it as well. GMB approved the deal in July, following a vote by over 100,000 members. Nonetheless, Unite has active industrial action ballots across multiple councils and organizations, reflecting ongoing dissatisfaction among some members. Looking ahead, unions will consult with workers on pay aspirations for 2025-26, calling for a fully funded offer.
