The Government has announced a 5.5% pay award for National Health Service (NHS) staff on Agenda for Change (AfC). This award follows the recommendations of the NHS Pay Review Body (PRB), which also includes changes to the pay structure for higher-level positions. AfC covers about 330,000 NHS workers across different job levels. Staff on these contracts are now invited to vote on whether to accept or reject the pay award. Although this consultation will not affect the immediate implementation of the pay award, it is important for understanding staff opinions and shaping the Royal College of Nursing’s (RCN) future actions. Union UNISON welcomes the 5.5% pay rise as progress but stresses the need for further action on structural issues.
