Wages in the entire economy rose by 3.9% in September 2024 compared to the same month the year before. According to the Mediation Institute (Medlingsinstitutet), wages are growing more than twice as fast as consumer prices, including housing interest costs. Preliminary figures show that wages in the private sector increased by 3.9%, while they increased by 3.3% in the public sector. Inflation was only 1.1% in September according to Statistics Sweden. This means that real wages increased by as much as 2.8% compared to last year. Such a rapid increase has only occurred on four occasions in the past two decades.
