Negotiations on reducing working hours have hit a standstill, prompting union leaders to advocate for increased mobilizations. Both major unions CCOO and UGT were planning to intensify their efforts at the end of August and throughout September due to the stagnation in talks. The proposed reduction aims to decrease the workweek to 37.5 hours, a change that has not been implemented in over 40 years. While the Government’s initial proposal was seen as a positive start, it currently lacks the detailed measures needed for substantial progress. If an agreement is not reached between the Government, unions, and employers, the draft law will need to be reviewed by the legislative body. As the unions push for a fair reduction in working hours that aligns with current economic conditions, they remain committed to exploring various measures that will support workers and facilitate a meaningful agreement.
