Portugal - Strike in private healthcare - August 31, 2024

Nurses working in private hospitals across Portugal have launched a series of strikes to demand better working conditions and recognition of their professional rights. The strikes are organized by the Portuguese Nurses Union (SEP). The primary requests driving the strikes are the need for a revised collective agreement that ensures regulated hours, a 35-hour workweek, increased wages, fair compensation for demanding shifts and proper remuneration for shift work. The nurses' strike  saw high participation rates, ranging from 50% and up to 100% participation in many locations.
