Portugal - Public administration workers rally - October 31, 2024

Over 5,000 public administration workers gathered in Lisbon to demand better wages, pensions, and career recognition. Organized by the Common Front, with participation from unions, this demonstration reflected workers' frustration with the 2025 State Budget proposal, which they believe fails to address longstanding issues of underinvestment in public services and low pay. Strikes across several sectors accompanied the rally, with workers from local administration and public enterprises actively participating. They highlighted the significant loss of purchasing power and the intensifying workloads within public administration, contrasting sharply with the record profits of major economic groups. A core demand is a 15% wage increase for the 749,000 public administration workers.
